Gopal Patel serves as Director of the Bhumi Project – a joint initiative of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and GreenFaith. Working with the Hindu community internationally, Bhumi aims to raise awareness and address the environmental challenges facing our planet. Gopal has served in this capacity since 2010 and has helped Bhumi become a leading voice on environmental issues for the global Hindu community. The project has worked on greening Hindu temples and places of worship across India, regularly convenes workshops to train young Hindus on good environmental practices, and is often asked to offer Hindu perspectives on environmental concerns. In the lead-up to the the COP21 Paris Climate Conference in 2015, Bhumi issued the Hindu Declaration on Climate Change, which was endorsed by over 60 major Hindu organizations and leaders globally. Gopal is a graduate of King’s College, London, and has spent time in Hindu ashrams in India and England. He divides his time between Oxford, New York and Mumbai.
