Council of Europe
The Council of Europe (CoE) s an international organization established in the wake of World War II to uphold human rights, democracy. Founded in 1949, as of 2023 it brings together 46 member states.
As an international organization, the Council of Europe has the ability to push for the enforcement of select international agreements reached by member states on various topics. The best-known body of the Council of Europe is the European Court of Human Rights, which functions on the basis of the European Convention on Human Rights of 1953.
The International Council on Environmental Economics and Development (ICEED) is a permanent observer to the Council of Europe Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAI) and is a regular participant in its plenary meetings. As an observer ICEED is able to offer recommendations to the rule making process for AI to help ensure that human rights, democracy and rule of law are protected and promoted in the digital environment.
